While the rest of us were settling into our warm beds last night, Trisura’s own Mike George and seventy other of Toronto’s top executives and business leaders spent the night outside on the ground in solidarity with homeless youth.
Equipped with only a sleeping bag and a cardboard box, participants in the 3rd Annual Covenant House Executive Sleep Out braved the wind-chill of -18 °C and the city noise. The event takes place simultaneously in Covenant House locations in cities across North America and invites business leaders to use their influence to raise money and awareness of the hardships of street youth.
This year over $900,000 was raised for Covenant House Toronto, which exceeded their goal by over $100,000. Mike was one of the top 6 fundraisers, surpassing his personal goal of $30,000.
“The services provided by Covenant House and its remarkable team to homeless youth in crisis are nothing short of amazing. It is a safe haven surrounded by an absolute jungle of risks including gangs, drugs and human trafficking. It was an honour to be included with such a remarkable group of men and women who braved the frigid temperature to help disadvantaged kids achieve a brighter future.”
– Mike George
Covenant House is Canada’s largest homeless youth agency which not only provides food and shelter, but also offers education, counselling and health care for thousands of kids each year. Their successful re-integration program assists youth with employment assistance, job training and affordable housing so that homeless youth have the guidance and opportunity to leave the streets and begin new lives.
